GeraSync
GeraSync for Google Drive is an unofficial, open-source (GPL-3.0) Google Drive desktop client for Linux. Your whole Drive appears as a folder on your computer, and files stay in the cloud until you open them.
On the release page, pick the files whose names start with gerasync:
.deb (Ubuntu, Debian), .rpm (Fedora, openSUSE),
.pkg.tar.zst (Arch) or .tar.gz (any distribution). Install, sign in with
Google and use it: no Google Cloud project or Client ID needed.
What it does
- Shows My Drive and your shared drives as the
~/GeraSyncfolder in your file manager. - Opens files on demand and sends your local edits, renames, moves and deletions back to Drive (deleted files go to the Drive trash).
- Keeps chosen files and folders available offline, can mirror all of My Drive into a local folder, and backs up computer folders and removable drives to Drive.
- Adds status emblems, sharing, version history and shortcuts to the right-click menu, a tray icon, search, notifications and up to 4 accounts at the same time.
Why GeraSync needs access to your Google Drive
When you sign in, GeraSync asks for permission to see, edit, create and delete your Google Drive
files (the drive scope), and for your email address. It needs the full Drive access to
list everything in your Drive, including files created on the web or by other apps, to open them,
and to send the changes you make in the folder. Your email address only identifies which account
is connected.
Your data stays between your computer and Google
GeraSync runs entirely on your computer and talks directly to Google's APIs. There is no GeraSync server: the project never receives your files, your account data or usage statistics. Your sign-in token is kept in your system keyring. Read the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service.
