GeraSync Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 4, 2026
GeraSync for Google Drive ("GeraSync") is an unofficial, open-source (GPL-3.0) Google Drive desktop client for Linux. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. This policy explains which data GeraSync accesses, how it uses, stores and shares it, and how you can delete it.
Data GeraSync accesses
When you sign in, GeraSync asks Google for these permissions:
- Google Drive (
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive): the list of your files and folders in My Drive and in the shared drives you can access, their metadata (names, folders, sizes, dates, revisions, sharing), and the content of the files you open, pin for offline use or sync. - Your email address and account identifier (
openid, email): to show which Google account is connected and keep each account's data apart.
How GeraSync uses the data
Only to provide the features you see in the app: show your Drive as a folder on your computer, open files, send the changes you make in that folder, keep files available offline, mirror or back up the folders you choose, and, when you ask for it, share a file, show its versions, create a shortcut or create a shared drive. GeraSync does not use your data for advertising, does not sell it and does not use it to build profiles.
Where the data is stored
Only on your own computer:
- File metadata, in a local database, so the folder opens without asking Google on every access.
- The content you opened or marked as available offline, in a local cache, until it is freed.
- The sign-in token of each connected account (up to 4), in your system keyring (Secret Service), never in a plain-text file.
- App preferences and logs, in your user's configuration and state folders.
Data travels between your computer and Google over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
Sharing
GeraSync has no server. The developer never receives, stores or reads your Google data, and GeraSync does not transfer it to anyone. The app talks only to:
- Google's sign-in and Google Drive APIs;
- once a day, GitHub's public API, only to check the latest app version
(
api.github.com/repos/junior9283/gdrive-desktop-linux/releases/latest). The request carries only the installed version, and none of your data.
GeraSync sends no usage statistics or telemetry. "Send feedback" and, if you turn on error reports (off by default), "Send report" only open the project's issue page in your browser with the text filled in; you decide whether to post it. The diagnostics package stays on your computer.
Limited Use
GeraSync's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, the data is used only to provide the features described above; it is not transferred to others except as needed to provide those features, to comply with applicable law or as part of a merger or acquisition; it is not used for advertising; and no person reads it unless you ask for help and give permission, it is needed for security or to comply with the law.
How to delete your data or revoke access
- In GeraSync, open the account menu and choose Disconnect account. The token, the cache and the offline files of that account are removed from your computer.
- Uninstalling GeraSync from its window removes the programs; the preferences in
~/.config/gerasynccan be deleted by hand. - You can revoke GeraSync's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Your files in Google Drive are governed by Google's own terms and are not touched by disconnecting or uninstalling.
